Department of Pathology & Forensic Medicine Overview
Established in 2016, the Department of Pathology teaches:
- General Pathology (for third-year students)
- Forensic Medicine (for fourth-year students) Vision To be a leading foundational department, bridging basic sciences and clinical medicine by explaining the pathological basis of diseases.
Mission To equip students with:
- Core principles of pathology and its link to clinical diseases (from diagnosis to complications)
- Advanced diagnostic methods to differentiate similar disease presentations
- Forensic medicine skills, including medical-legal report writing
Objectives :
- Teach pathology fundamentals (3rd year) & forensic medicine (4th year)
- Train students to analyze disease mechanisms, crucial for treatment & prevention
- Prepare students for forensic practice, including: Writing medico-legal reports (criminal cases, hospital emergencies) Understanding legal medical ethics
- Provide diagnostic consultations for Fallujah Teaching Hospital Key Topics Pathology (3rd Year) Cellular injury & adaptation Inflammation & healing Neoplasia (benign vs. malignant tumors) Systemic pathology (cardiac, pulmonary, hepatic, renal diseases) Forensic Medicine (4th Year) Death investigation (cause, manner, time of death) Trauma analysis (gunshots, burns, poisoning) Sexual offenses & DNA evidence Medical malpractice & ethical dilemmas Teaching Methods Interactive lectures (case-based learning) Microscopic slide analysis (histopathology) Autopsy demonstrations (forensic training) Workshops on legal documentation
