Established in 2013 alongside the founding of the College of Medicine, the Department of Medical Chemistry & Clinical Biochemistry teaches: Medical Chemistry (1st-year students) Clinical Biochemistry (2nd-year students) Achievements & Research

  • Active research on Iraqi health & environmental challenges

Mission Aligned with the college’s mission, the department: Equips 1st & 2nd-year students with knowledge in Medical Chemistry & Clinical Biochemistry Helps students understand interdisciplinary subjects for holistic medical practice Aims to build a healthier society free from diseases and epidemics Objectives:

  1.  Train competent physicians & researchers to provide quality healthcare.
  2. Teach theoretical & practical skills in: Medical Chemistry (atomic structure, bonds, reactions) Clinical Biochemistry (metabolism, enzymes, biomarkers) 
  3. Bridge academia & society through applied medical research. 

Key Focus Areas Teaching:

  •  1st Year: Basics of organic & inorganic chemistry Biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins) Acid-base balance & electrolytes 
  • 2nd Year: Metabolic pathways (glycolysis, Krebs cycle) Liver & kidney function tests Endocrinology & hormone biochemistry Research  Ongoing projects: Environmental toxins & public health Biochemical markers for diseases Nutritional deficiencies in Iraq Innovation & Community Impact:
