Chemistry & Biochemistry
About the branch of Chemistry and BiochemistryThe Chemistry and Biochemistry Branch was established in 2013 with the establishment of the college. The branch teaches medical students in the first and second stages of the subjects of medicinal chemistry and clinical biochemistry. The teaching staff of our branch has an active role and contribution to the research work about problems of health and environmental situation in Iraqi society. Many of our teaching staff published several concrete kinds of research in international fields with a relatively high impact coefficient in reliable magazines inside and outside Iraq.Vision and Missionthe branch wants to be the first among the other branches in training undergraduate students and helping the first and second-stage students to apply the foundations of all types of chemistry and in solving individual and societal medical problems. The letter of the branch is a part of the faculty letter, which includes the illustration of chemistry for students in each specialty medical chemistry and biochemistry to be physicians able to provide the healthy requirements for a person and population. Objectives of the branch The main objective of the branch is to prepare qualified and distinguished doctors and researchers who can provide the necessary medical care to the community. The main goal of the branch is to provide medical students with an academic theoretical basis and practical skills to understand the principles of medical chemistry and medical biochemistry, as well as link academic education and society through solid scientific research of applied medical interest that serves the community
Pharmacology
Pharmacology Department/College of Medicine;Pharmacology Department /College of Medicine, started first time to developed in 2016 – 2017, by completed total syllabus of Pharmacology Science, for third stage student in college of medicine. The aims to reach, the theory & practical level & original basic information to medical drug therapy in the medical practitioner in future.assist to learn & explain to students from (mechanism of action of drugs at the cellular & molecular level, and drugs effects and side effects, learn & know effect of drug inside body, & absorption, distribution, metabolic & excretion effects) and application of that’s by giving those drugs in laboratory animals different drug doses.Student to teach & knew (drug classification according to pharmacological effects on different body systems, know the important drug of each drug groups, to explain drug groups &common uses of important dugs), and student know (drug indication, contraindication, mechanism of action, chemical structure, acute toxic effects, poising of chemical substances, & another problems of drugs related to drug misuse and drug abuses). Branch of pharmacology use new updated medical references for new drugs used in updated 8th edition 2023 edition of ((Lippincott Illustrated Reviews Pharmacology)) by self-teaching with academic method. In pharmacology Department teaching includes different methods (Theory Lectures, practical studies and compatible with another different medical and scientific and clinical branches, held scientific medical groups and group discussions by giving role to professors from other branches to share in the giving of medical & scientific lectures according to specialty & subspecialty and sharing in examinations.
